Inspiration

So as you begin your final year of high school I thought our first post would discuss inspiration. We watched Kelsey Juliana in class talk a little about her journey (you can see the rest here: http://billmoyers.com/episode/climate-change-next-generation/ ). Do you have a role model that inspires you? Kelsey's parent's had a big impact on her activism. What do you think was a key factor in their success? Tell us about one person in your life and how they influence you.

Here's another example of inspiring: http://inhabitat.com/16-year-old-irish-girls-win-google-science-fair-2014-with-world-changing-crop-yield-breakthrough/ - 3, 16 year old girls from Ireland just won the Google Science fair competition!.

  1. My dad is my role model. He's always encouraging me to do what I love and ignore any negativity. It's hard to ignore people's doubts but at the end of the day I'm the only person who has to live with my decisions and I want to be happy with what I choose as a career or what I choose to believe in. I think Kelsey's parents have the same mindset because Kelsey isn't letting anyone stop her from doing what she wants to do.

    1. I agree Emily. My dad was very much like that when I was growing up. Family can be a have a huge influence and it's important to have a positive support system to help motivate us when we're unsure or down.

  2. Key factors I think was a part of Kelsey's success was her upbringing by her parents and also not losing interest. Sometimes when parent puts there interest on a child , the child doesn't have the same interests but this is not the case with Kelsey because she shows compassion in what she does.

    1. Good point Arayanna. Parents can push too hard sometimes or perhaps force their wishes onto their children. Losing interest is very easy to do even if you like what you're doing. That's where inspirational people can come in and remind us to tough it out.

  3. I think the key factor in Kelsey's success is her ambition. She kept fighting for what she believed in despite what others thought. She also never gave up. Its obvious that her parents influenced her to be ambitious, I mean they brought her to a protest when she was a couple weeks old. My mom is someone I aspire to be like. She's strong and confident in all she does. I hope to be able to live a life where I am proud of the person I am and is not afraid to speak my mind.

  4. I think Kelsey's parents' key factor in their success of getting their daughter to be an activist was exposing her to the world of protest and the power of activism at a very young age. A role model that inspires me would have to be Beyonce Knowles because she believes in a woman's right to do whatever she wants and not be condemned or put down for it. I aspire to have that kind of sense of pride and happiness within myself so I can one day be able to share that with the world and all the people around me in my life.

  5. I believe that a key factor in Kelsey's success was her determination and desire to become an activist. Despite all the thoughts of other people, she never gave up and was even more determined to reach her goal. A role model in my life that inspires me is my mom. She is an ambitious and hardworking woman and never gives up on what she believes is right. She always pushes me to do my best and tells me to never give up on my dreams or goals. I aspire to grow up and be exactly like my mother and have all the qualities that she has and hopefully accomplish as much as she did.

  7. Well said ladies. Another young person in the news that I thought might add to our discussion is Joshua Wong. A 17 year old student in Hong Kong is leading protests recently against the government of China. Pretty impressive accomplishment: http://tinyurl.com/kckaz28

  8. Kelsey's key factor was her desire to be an activist. Her parents strongly influenced her in a positive way. Even though people may have discouraged her she didn't care and she just kept doing what she thought is right. A role model that inspires me is my mom. She always tells me to never give up in what you believe in,

  9. Kelsey's key factor was her drive and determination. She knew what she wanted to do so she did it. People probably discouraged her but she didn't stop trying because she was determined to be an activist. My mom is my role model because she encourages me constantly. She pushes me when I don't want to be pushed but it always helps me in the end. She's always their for me to fall back on. I hope I will be able to accomplish as much as she has.
