Humans are visual beings. Pictures are said to be worth a thousand words. Artists and Cartoonists use images to convey meaning in powerful ways. Check out the following from a Polish Cartoonist. Pick one and that moves you and describe which one you chose. Then describe what it means to you.

I chose the picture with a grim reaper playing with a heart monitor as a video game. I think it shows that death can happen at any time & we have to play the game, life, right before it's game over. It's scary but true.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. That one I thought was a warning to people that play video games too much.
DeleteI chose the picture of the guy drinking beer out of a bottle with a hook in it. I think it symbolizes that you can get hooked and addicted to alchol and that it' is very hard to get unhooked.
ReplyDeleteGood Samantha. That one wasn't clear to me until you pointed it out.
DeleteThe picture I chose was the one with the Facebook logo and the boy looking through it like a telescope. Although I am happy about all the new ideas and tech platforms that are created to expanded creativity and ways to socialize it also has a drawback. Facebook is one of the most well-known social media. Connecting others with past and present friends or other countries and it makes you feel happy to know you have more friends or followers than the next person. However, does a person ever really talk to another person face to face. More and more people would say that they are social but that is a double standard. In the past, a person actively hung out with friends doing many activities and at most talked on the phone. Now, everything is through text message and no one ever calls anyone just because or go outside to visit others often because they "can see them on the online". What we gain we also lose which can be kind of depressing
ReplyDeleteThe image of a person being in a prison with Facebook as the periscope is pretty powerful.
DeleteI chose the picture of the guy cutting the paintbrush. This picture stood out to me the most because he is cutting a paintbrush showing that technology has taken over the beauty of arts and crafts. Nowadays everything is computer generator which is sad because it discourages people to have artist ability and showing that having that is almost useless.
ReplyDeleteThat one can be construed in a lot of ways. I think it goes a little deeper meaning that technology is starting to rob us of true art. Photoshoped images, people with less time to create art, etc.
DeleteI chose the image of the man with the saw powered by a mouse who is destroying paint brushes. This for me, symbolizes the way technology destroys creativity and 'old fashion' way of expressing oneself.
ReplyDeleteThe picture that I chose was the one with the man looking through a Facebook symbol as if it were a telescope. This image stood out to me the most because it shows, in my opinion, how much Facebook has corrupted today's society. People think that it's perfectly okay to just communicate over social media websites and not talk to someone face-to-face. This illustration also shows that people spy on one another's profiles ("life") through Facebook. Yes it is a great thing to have especially if you have family overseas and wish to communicate with them but when it comes to you not being able to speak directly to the people that you see everyday it becomes a problem. Everyone thinks that it's alright to just send texts back and forth instead of having a conversation with someone. It causes people to become isolated from the rest of the world.
ReplyDeleteI chose the picture of the black man painting his chains gold. To me this symbolizes the black race's acknowledgement of what their ancestors have done for them and how they idolize them as if they were royalty no matter how dehumanizing an experience they've been through.
