How will technology affect your future?

Why it is important to learn computer science?

It is said that the future will contain two types of people. Those that are told what to do by a computer and those that tell the computer what to do. As Drew from Dropbox mentioned everything has been turned upside by software. The question for our post is, how do you see it affecting your future? Think for a moment what discipline you are interested in studying and how has it or how do you see it being affecting by technology in the future?

  1. Steve Jobs said "Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer...because it teaches you how to think", I think this quote is very inspirational. I see computer science affecting my future because if you learn how to code you can change the way things work. Learning computer science will enable you to understand the possibilities and limits the computer has and what you can do to change that. Computer Science is one of my interest to study in college and I see it affecting technology in the future because learning how to code can change the way we think and use technology today. I think more people should be aware and exposed to this.

  2. I think the future really will contain two types of people. Computers don't actually tell us what to do, WE tell the computers what to do & what to tell other people using it to do. I think it's amazing how much control humans have on each other & technology. Technology would not have even been discovered if it wasn't for us. I think in the future there will be even more technology exposed to us & we're going to find out we can do more with it than we could ever imagine. Some people may think computer are stupid or hide you from reality, but really computers help us & make us think.

  3. I think the future will contain two types of people. However, I don't think: those that are told what to do by a computer and those that tell the computer what to do is as concrete. I think coding is a good thing to learn (especially at a young age) because it makes sense to understand the basics of the tech devices that you use everyday. As said in the video, coding may look very difficult but it is just simple steps that a 2nd or 3rd grader can do. If a person learns coding at a young age or even now, they will grow up to be logical thinkers and a valuable component to any career. To me, the statement of "those that are being told what to do" seems to have a bad connotation. Although I think it is a great idea to learn coding in general, I understand that a person just isn't into that kind of field. For example, one of the majors I am interested in is anthropology. Anthropology does not require alot of computer skills and I am okay with that but that does not mean I'm being controlled by anyone because that is what I want to do.

  4. It is no secret that technology is constantly advancing and changing the future; the video explained that it does not take a genius to understand coding. Steve Jobs stated "Everyone should know how to program a computer", I don't disagree nor agree with Steve Jobs, it takes much determination to do coding, but doesn't take a genius. I believe that if schools incorporated more computer coding classes or after school programs, there will not be two different types. Coding can have benefits to those who learn it, it causes those to think logically and is a impressive quality to have in a career.

  5. Technology will play a major part of the future. It plays a huge role now. Mostly everything is done electronically. I do believe that it is impotant that people learn more about the devices they use everyday. I also believe that there will be those people who tell the computer what to and those who are told what to do by the computer, but I hope that as time and technology progresses people will realize the importance of technology and how to better understand it. I' m majoring in accounting when I get to college and most of the work is done electronically. So understanding how to use my device is key. I think it's important for people to learn basic computer skills, like programming because it will be necessary in the long run.
