Amy Cuddy wasn’t supposed to become a successful scientist. In fact, she wasn’t even supposed to finish her undergraduate degree. Early in her college career, Cuddy suffered a severe head injury in a car accident, and doctors said she would struggle to fully regain her mental capacity and finish her undergraduate degree.
Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows how “power posing” -- standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident -- can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.
What is your impression of "power posing"? Have you found yourself in circumstances where you feel power less? Do you think Power Posing could work for you? Or is it non-sense?
I think "power posing" can work for me. I have found myself in power less positions and often I've tried to convince myself that I can do it and it does work. I think "power posing" can help everyone especially for people with low self-esteem. It can boost your ego and help you to have confidence in yourself. I think Amy Cuddy is very inspirational and brave for doing what she does especially after that accident. I think everyone should try "power posing" and also try to convince yourself that you are great and you can do it.
ReplyDeleteIt never crossed my mind on the little things that can show power. Ann Cuddy's research really showed that a change in body position can make a person feel more confident. Reflecting on myself, I've noticed that I have positioned myself in "powerless" positions. Although I think Power posing can work, I don't think its subjected to everyone. What if there are people who are already in power and they are just lazy or not in the mood. I don't think it is up for people to judge them on how they behave because in the end they are still in the leading position.
ReplyDeleteI think "power posing" could work for me but I don't know about everyone. I think for some people once you "power pose" you automatically feel something positive. I've felt powerless & my body language can confirm it. It sounds like non-sense until you actually try it. It could make a difference. I think Amy Cuddy is inspiring & courageous. She didn't let her injury discourage her or make her feel less than who she is. If she let her injury get the best of her, we wouldn't probably even be discussing this. It's amazing how something so small can make a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though "power posing" can help a lot of people who physically feel inferior to someone else. But however, I am a firm believer in "mental power posing" because I feel that from within, you can feel a whole lot better. Personally, I like empowering myself within my mind. I have found myself to be in powerless circumstances and it doesn't feel great; it helps to have a very powerful mindset. I think power posing can work for me but not as much as my "mental power posing." I do think Amy Cuddy is a very inspirational person nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteI think power posing is a great way to make people feel better physically, although it might not work for everyone. I think having a powerful mind is key. If you feel strong on the inside then it reflects on the outside. I've been in may situations where I've felt powerless and I've noticed it reflects on my body language. I think power posing could work for me if I believe that it can work. Most of the time people forget to believe in themselves in situations and that makes them feel so bad. I think Amy is so brave for managing to still finish college even though everyone was telling her to let it go. I think that if she came up with a power pose for the mind that it could help so many people. I think her story is very inspirational and it can help so many people.
ReplyDeleteI think the results of "power posing" was quite incredible. I can't believe that doing something as simple as that can effect your body as well as your mind. I have found myself in situations where I have felt powerless, especially when speaking in front of class. I think "power posing" could work for me.
ReplyDelete"Power Posing" is an interesting method to give people confidence, and eventually lead them to believe what they are portraying. Powerful mind equals powerful thoughts, which then turns into reality. First impressions are based on body language and how you carry yourself, so if you're portraying that you are strong and you really aren't... Fake it till you make it/believe it, in the words of Amy Cuddy. There have been moments where I have felt power less, I wish I had Amy Cuddy's helpful tips, because they would have most definitely made a difference. My final thoughts on this topic is that "Power Posing" is not non- sense, and works if you're willing to put the energy into it.
ReplyDeleteI never thought that concepts like "power posing" existed. After watching the video with Amy Cuddy, I think that "power posing" could be something that every person should try at least once in their life. Presentation is everything in today's world. The way somebody sees you for the first time can be the way that they see you for the rest of the time that they will know you. If you stand up tall with a smile on your face and look confident, then you will leave everyone with an impression of you to remember. I hands down believe that "power posing" could work for me because there are times where I find myself feeling less than I should be. I think that by trying this technique I will become more confident and positive with myself and that that change in my physique will show when I am with other people.
